If you have ever wanted to blow glass this class is for you. In 10 hours of guided, hands on instruction you will learn basic glass handling skills such as safe shop working practices, gathering, blocking, jacking, tweezing, blowing, and teamwork. Students will attempt to form one (or more) paperweight and one (or more) tumbler. Classes are on 2 successive weekend days or one day each on two successive weekends. The cost is $300 per student. There is a 2 student minimum. Minimum age is 14.
Students who wish to explore glass further can take a 16 hour survey of advanced forms, advanced coloring techniques, and decorative bit work. Students will be introduced to bowl, goblet, amphora, and rondel forms as well as coloring using bar color, cane and murrini pickups. Classes are weekday evenings from 5-9 and can be scheduled over 4 successive weeks.
Further focused study of complicated techniques such as optic mold, cane pulling and murrini, encalmo, or any area in which you would like to strengthen your technical skills.
Upon approval by Radiant Glass staff the studio is available for rent. Rental periods are no less than 3 hours (which may be shared between two or more renters) and include an additional 15 min each for setup and tear down. Renters have use of either a 2’x2’x2’ front loading annealer or a 2’x2’x3’ top loading annealer. Also available are a color warmer, cane plate, a 10” glory hole, 100# clear furnace, a pipe warmer/garage, a sitting gaffers bench, a standing assistants bench, basic tools, pipes, and punties. Studio rental is $40 and hour or $45 if you would like assistance in the hot shop.
Radiant Glass has the following equipment available for finishing work: 24” lap wheel running 80 grit silicon carbide grit for course grinding and stock removal. 18” lap wheel with diamond pads available in 140, 220, 325, 600 pre-polish, and cerium oxide polish. Wet belt sander with 80, 220, 400, 600, cork/pumice pre-polish, and cerium polish. water cooled diamond saw water cooled diamond core drill. Cold shop rental is $10 an hour. ½ hour minimum. Basic cold working service is $25 an hour. 1 hour minimum
